Sleep is vital to keep your body healthy and happy. However, falling asleep can be extremely difficult, even after a long day. So here are my favorite tips on how to fall asleep as quickly as possible.
1. Stay on a schedule
The human body has a regulatory sleep system called your circadian rhythm. It is basically an internal alarm clock that keeps you alert during the day and sleeping at night. So, by staying on a regular schedule, it will be easier to wake up in the morning and fall asleep at night.
2. Turn off your phone
It is proven that using electronic devices is horrible for sleep. We have all been there where you start scrolling on Instagram and you end up staying on there for hours. Try turning off your electronics at least 30 minutes before the time you want to be asleep by.
3. Turn the temperature down
If you're too hot or too cold, it is so much more difficult to fall asleep at night. As you start to feel more tired, your body temperature drops which helps you drift off to sleep. Sleeping in a cooler bedroom will help with this bodily function.
4. Limit caffeine intake
Caffeine boosts adrenaline production and blocks sleep-inducing chemicals in the brain. For just half a cup of coffee, it can take up to 6 hours for the caffeine to fully process. Try decaf tea before bed to calm your body after a long day.
5. Exercise during the day
Moderate-intensity aerobic exercise has been shown to help people with insomnia to fall asleep. It is important to incorporate exercise into your schedule during the day because for some, but not all, exercising at night can keep people from falling asleep at night.
6. Watch guided sleep meditation videos
There are a ton of guided sleep videos that allow you to relax and fall into a deep sleep. You can click the picture to the left and it will go to a guided sleep video on YouTube.
